As documented on other boards, I am constructing a small ultra lightweight dome for showing the stars to children - called the Gallatin Childrens Planetarium - this is using the top of one of those old circular chairs found at goodwill for 5 bucks (I still have the base), then nailing this to the ceiling of my barn. Im using a railed off corner of the barn - next I'm putting on thin ribs found in the molding section of Lowes . the dome will hang from the ceiling, with kids sitting on the floor looking up. No reflective surface has yet been selected Attachments:

Here the finished 'fifty buck dome' await first light from the Lawrence Hall of Science projector kit, not yet finished . A horizon silhouette can be easily cut out of black posterboard - even a random 'town' pattern such as this with steeples, roofs etc gives a good impression. Attachments:

A small table in the center of this lightweight theater really should be cut thru the floor into the ground beneath to prevent vibration. Attachments:

So this is basically a 'fifty buck' dome. Keys to the construction 1. Super light poster board stapled/taped onto a bendable light frame of molding from Lowes. 2. Some sort of circular top to give the dome shape - could be any circular object really 3. hang it from overhead (reinforce with side wires if possible) eliminates need for walls, side supports etc 4. sit on the floor .. put projector into ground to avoid vibration if outside 5. cut silhouette out of black poster board Attachments:
